Driver Jobs in Mumbai: What Licence You Need

Rozgaar Setu team · Updated

Driver jobs are among the most common jobs in Mumbai — private cars, office cabs, school vans, tempos and goods vehicles. Before applying, make sure your licence covers the vehicle in the job. This guide explains what to check.

Check the vehicle class on your licence

Your driving licence lists the classes of vehicle you are allowed to drive. A licence for motorcycles does not cover cars, and a licence for private (non-transport) cars does not by itself cover commercial transport vehicles. If you are unsure what your licence covers, check it on the government's Parivahan Sewa website or at your RTO.

  • Two-wheeler delivery jobs: a licence for motorcycles (with or without gear, depending on the bike)
  • Private car or office cab jobs: a light motor vehicle licence
  • Taxi, tempo, goods-vehicle and other commercial jobs: a licence with the transport category for that vehicle

Keep your licence valid

An expired licence means you cannot legally drive for work. Note the validity date on your licence and renew it in time.

How licence verification works on Rozgaar Setu

When an employer marks a driving job “Driving Licence Required”, you upload your licence once. Rozgaar Setu's verification team checks it and records which vehicle classes it covers. The employer sees only the verification status — never the licence image itself.

You can apply while verification is pending; the employer can hire you once it is verified.
